Reflection Swing, Cambridge

Hand sketch of swing art installation by Inclume Architects, Cambridge

An interactive public arts & culture installation that takes the form of a swing, allowing users to engage with the sculpture while bringing excitement and intrigue to the local area.

Formed sheets of translucent recycled plastic form the canopy and are attached together with a secure hex-bolt mechanism. These modules can be pre fabricated and made off-site in small sections and then transported for a reduced construction time on-site and increased accuracy. Light is able to permeate through the structure, creating dappled light and shade throughout the day and reflecting the changing weather conditions.

When seated, users would be able to face upwards towards the cloud sculpture, giving an abstract sense of swinging in the clouds. This project was submitted as part of a Cambridge City Council Section 106 Agreement application for local community public art and architecture in Cambridge.
