Arium Festival Installation
A movable canopy proposed as part of a music and architectural design festival that can be dismantled and transported to other locations.
The design is based on the architecture that a Roman canopy used to cover the seating area of an amphitheatre, also known as a velarium. In its time the canopy would have protected spectators from the sun, but its main function was to provide a ventilation updraft which created a cool circulated breeze. This idea has been reinterpreted as a movable rotating canopy that would form a beacon and meeting point in a busy festival environment. The architectural installation is injected with a spectrum of colour, forming an elegant array of tones when in motion.
